This last weekend, I had the opurtunity to co-drive for my friend, Ray Piloto, at the Seed 9 Rally. It was a great way for me to learn what to expect in the upcoming season. The abuse that a car takes on a rally stage is far beyond what I had imagined. The bottom line is I had a blast. The weather conditions were unfavorable to say the least and the road conditions were extremely muddy.
After running two stages, the remaining three stages were canceled due to the conditions. While in rally we like to race in any weather, when safety becomes a concern and ambulance access is not possible, we have to keep competitor and volunteer well being into account. It was a bit of a bummer as we were quickly closing on a second place finish behind 2nd by only 6 seconds at the end of stage two, but what can you do. The good news is that we had some good runs, kept it nice and tidy and still managed to make it to the Seed 9 podium as well as secure the SWRC overall championship title as well as the Open Light championship title for Ray.
